Visitability
An limited but important application of universal design whereby a wheelchair user can independently get into the main floor of a residence, more about and get into the bathroom. When applied this means no steps, low threshholds and 32" wide doors and hallways. The result is an inclusive environment.
Concrete Change
An international effort to make all new homes Visitable! This is the place to go to understand visitability - the few and minor requirements to make a home a place that a person using a wheelchair can get it, move about an accessible floor and use the bathroom.

Is Your Friend's Home Visitable?
"After a spinal cord injury, where we go and who we visit become more limited. Since my injury in June 1998, I can no longer go to any of my neighbor’s homes and ring their doorbells. Even the two brand new homes a few doors down from me were built with concrete porches and steps that are barriers to me. I would have liked to have welcomed their owners to our neighborhood, but concrete barriers are hard to pass through when you are seated in a wheelchair."
